Thanks for returning to these parts Bob. I am definitely interested in a reprint of the Legends miniseries. I remeber when it first came out, and i thought it was brilliant! Glad to hear that Supes is getting a new archive next year. It's been too long. Are there any plans for a JLA archive this year? I'd like to see the last installment of the Sekowski run, so we can begin a new era in the JLA. Also, any plans for a new GL archive? Thanks. Lastly, I have heard that DC has an agreement with Eisner for a certain period of time in whcih DC can produce Spirit Archives. Is DC committed to finsihing the Spirit run within that time frame? Thanks IP: Logged |

quote: Excellent. I have this crazy goal to get a full run of Superman post-Crisis (at least up to a certain point, but which point I do not know). However, only have two issues prior to the Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite. Having TPBs of Byrne's run will make collecting a lot easier and faster for me. I just hope the prices aren't too outrageous, as sometimes happens with these older issues, where the TPB price is determined by current standards, but you can get the originals for almost half of that price sometime.
quote: I have a question about Legends. Exactly how was it set up? I know it was a limited series, and then had a bunch of tie-ins in the ongoing series, and I think they were numbered (like Superman #3 was "Legends part 17" or something). Is there a possiblity of maybe a series of Legends TPBs for the tie-ins to be included as well? IP: Logged |

Well, Legends had a bunch of tie-in sagas that didn't really do much except that they occured during the same time. However, The End of the Justice League is a pretty important component/tie-in of Legends, and might be worth collecting in the same volume, or as a companion volume. Since Legends was really just one big origin for the JLI, the end of the JLofA is a pretty important deal. IP: Logged |

I see Starman has missed its annual tradepaperback collection date. Is this still imminent, or is there a plan to redress the run in numbered volumes or is it just that the rest of the run is canned? I'd include The Shade collection (mini-series and Showcase tales) as the individual issues are rarer than any issues of Starman and they're some of Robinson's finest work. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I'd buy a Legends Trade. I've been looking for one. I'd also like to see the second JLI Trade reprinted. And what the hell, how about a SwordQuest TPB? All four parts, not just the three that were released with the Atari games. Didn't Kubert do the art for this? IP: Logged |

Only 25 more posts to go to beat the Legion Vol. 12 thread!!! Has the Great Controversy been resolved? Has it been decided which, if any, issues of Karate Kid will be included in the Legion Archives? IP: Logged |

Hi Bob How about an Alan Moore short tales trade. I mean Mr. Moore did a lot of great short stries during the 80s (Green Lantern Corps, Secret Origins, Vigilante, Batman) And I'm sure it would sell. IP: Logged |

Yes, there's a JLA Archives coming in 2003 as we cover issues #61-70 with an intro by Denny O'Neil, as he waxes nostalgic on taking over from Gardner Fox. And yes, we are committed to the total run of The Spirit, not to worry. Legends would go back to press as is since the six-part story held up just fine. Adding other stories from the crossovers would add to our production costs. Should we go forward with this, I'll keep you posted. Starman and Books of Magic experienced some sales slowdowns so we opted to go with other titles. Both keep coming up in discussion so you never know. And obviously, should ABC actually schedule the Starman TV show, we'd be foolish not to get all these books back onto the shelves. SwordQuest, with gorgeous George Perez, is owned by Atari, which is now longer an AOL Time Warner company. Therefore, it'd be tough to produce. It was also drawn for a different size and wouldn't necessarily adapt to the traditional comic book trim size. Finally, I don't recall if the fourth book was ever finished. I do recall, though, seeing the real prize, the jewel-encrusted sword at a trade show and thought it looked awesome. Of course we reached a Legion Archives decision. Announcement should be made shortly. The notion of an Alan Moore Omnibus (or Grant Morrison, or Peter Milligan, etc.) comes up frequently and I wouldn't be surprised to see it finally happen. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Mr. Greenberger, Thanks for the answering all of these questions. Your mention of a new JLA Archives volume reminded me of the one lingering dissatisfaction I have with the Archive line (I own them all). JLA Archives vol. 6 features some of the worst reproduction in an archive (specifically the whole of JLA no. 49). This was addressed at the same time as the Legion vol. 10 problem, but the press release stated that the JLA book met DC's acceptable standards level, or something like that. My question is whether the printing of JLA no. 49 would be improved in later printings of JLA Archives vol. 6, and whether there have been further printings yet. I may upgrade in the future, if possible, since that bad reproduction still bugs me. Thanks, IP: Logged |

quote: Bill, What problems in roduction value are you specifically refering to? I also have all of the JLA achives, and I love number 6. It also happens to be one of my wife's favorites. Interestingly enough, she is hooked on Silver Age Flash, GL and JLA. IP: Logged |

The reproduction is very shaky and blurry on JLA no. 49. Looks like a very bad tracing job with a sloppy paint brush rather than the fine lines of the usual Silver Age reproduction. - Bill IP: Logged |

Once again, Mr. Greenberger, THANKS for your input...very, very informative and much appreciated. A few questions: Any movement or decision on a SILVER AGE SUPERMAN line? Is GREEN LANTERN going to continue annually for the forseeable future? Are there plans for more WORLD'S FINEST (one of my favorite series)? Does DC have much in the way of sketches, never published covers, etc. that could be included (probably in small doses) in the various Archives? Thanks! IP: Logged |

I gotta admit, this is fun. We ask questions, and we get answers - which is as it should be. ![]() IP: Logged |

Since I'm taking a long weekend, some quick answers: JLA #49 had to have several pages reconstructed which contributed to the somewhat shaky look. Nothing we can do when the film vanishes. A Silver Age Superman run is always a possibility but with Dynamic Duo in 2003, we aren't planning anything as of today. World's Finest takes its tunr like all our other series. So should you not see, say, a Golden Age Flash or World's Finest or Blackhawk in a given year, it doesn't mean it won't possibly turn up the following year. Very little material from the old days survives to this day. If it does, it's usually in the hands of collectors, not DC. There are a handful of scripts, covers and even stories that were written and drawn in the late 1960s-early 1970s that exist but there are no plans to do anything with them. Enjoy your weekend! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Mr. Greenberger, Will we see the 70's All-Star Comics in archive format? Thanks. IP: Logged |

quote: That's a shame. Maybe someday. It could be done as a "Digest" comic. ![]() Does this mean that the 10 page "Reunion" story from the Teen Titans Digest won't be icluded in the Archives?
quote: It was finished according to some Atari 2600 collectors, but not released, and is somewhere in your archives. The fourth game "Air World" was never completed. I've seen pictures of the Sword on the 'net, probably from the same trade show, and it does look awesome. I wonder who has it now?
quote: There's a great Phantom Stranger origin story from the second Secret Origins series (17?) that I would like to see reprinted as well as the DC Comics Presents Superman/Swamp Thing team-up. I would buy this TPB. How about a Strange Sports Stories Archive? Seriously, it would be a done-in-one (I think). Thanks for taking the time out to answer our questions! IP: Logged |

quote: Oh boy. I realize you haven't said GA Flash ISN'T coming in 2003, but it's really starting to look like that is the case. Just one request, Mr. Greenberger. IF GA Flash doesn't hit the stands in 2003, please remember that his Archive line will now head the front of the list as far as time between volumes goes. IF anyone deserves a spot next, it's him (IMHO). Thanks. Gary "still hoping you can squeeze him in for 2003" O. IP: Logged |

Bob, forgive me if its been recently recently asked but I havent been able to keep up with this thread: has a SCRIBBLY & THE RED TORNADO Archive been brought up yet in your discussions of future volumes, as you said it may? There was some wonderful support for it in DStepp's recent Archive survey/poll and we were all pretty surprised by said support. What say? Jim ------------------ IP: Logged |

Bob. Question for you - What other mainstream DC titles apart from: Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Hawkman, JLA, JSA, and Wonder Woman are you collecting in TPB's? IP: Logged |

quote: Bob, I'm curious, this wouldn't happen to be BATMAN: FAMILY would it? And what is the likelihood of seeing another CATWOMAN trade in 2003? One last thing, has there been any more discussions regarding SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE? With Matt Wagner's upcoming DCU project, and Guy Davis' work at both Oni and Marvel, it seems like a perfect time to continue collections of the series. Thank you for your time. It's greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

Bob, Why is it that some trades reprint covers in a reduced form? This is really annoying especially with well produced collections like Green Arrow Quiver. The least that you could do is print the cover in its proper size. Some trades don't have covers at all, such as the Alan Moore Swamp Thing trades that are being released. Thanks IP: Logged |

I, too, am very interested to hear this question answered. What's up with this bent to crop covers in reprints, or tilt them so 30% is obscured? I saw it through DD Visionaries: Frank Miller, the new GI Joe trades, and tons of other places. I just don't get it. Covers deserve better! It's the first thing you see when you pick up a comic, it's something artists (I hope) labor over to really come up with something dramatic and cool that will entice readers. One of my favorite pasttimes is to pull my Masterworks and Archives down and just browse the covers. ------------------ IP: Logged |
