Great choices! I was just looking at Amethyst the other day. The art is amazing! It's one of my favorite early 80's series. Plus I think it was the first DC title that I collected (although it may have been Camelot 3000. Don't remember which came first).

'Mazing Man would be cool in a magna size format. Love the Fleisher/Aparo Spectre-hopefully in HC. Never read RIMA but I keep hearing great things about it.

Can we now assume that the rest of the KK series will be included in future Legion Archive volumes?

Please no.

The way I see it, there are three approaches you can take with "faux" annuals and giants: 1) use the format as a sampler of what one could find in a particular Archive series, complete with trade ads that point out that more of the same can be found in volumes 2 and 3 of Doom Patrol or whatever, 2) use the format to give us a taste of what is not likely to get the Archive treatment as soon as we want it (Metal Men, Metamorpho), or 3) just give us a Superbaby "faux" 80 page giant and be done with it.

I vaugely remember this series, and I know I liked Badger's art. Why is the series "much hated?"

I hated it much BECAUSE of Badger's "art."

Everybody's a critic, but I thought it was atrocious!

Oh that's all. The art's the reason I picked it up.

I thought that I had forgotten a controversial character change, like Moench's lame underpowered Spectre, TMG's 5 year's later Legion (which I loved), or the roadwarrior Hex.

I wasn't speaking for everyone.

For another thing, some fans were perturbed that J'onn's weakness to fire was psychological, not physical.

I don't remember what else.

I'm happy to see that an Adam Strange collection is listed for April, but very disappointed that it collects material from the 1990s rather than the earlier material.

Have you ever considered collecting AS from his first appearance and making it an archive? ;D

I, too, am bummed that we won't see GA Flash #2 this year. Geez, I thought the Flash was supposed to be fast! James, your position in our little "7 volumes in 20 years" wager is looking better and better! Maybe DC will at least start pumping out the GA GL Archives; I only need 7 volumes featuring one of those GA stalwarts by 2022! If we get a second Starman volume this year to finish out that line, though, I could stand waiting until 2004 for GA Flash #2.

AS a Huge Western fan I would love to see some DC western heroes reprinted in Archives or 80-page giant.

I still hope I lose that bet, Marty.
Starman vol. 2 this year would be very cool, but I'd bet on GA Hawkman vol. 1 instead, if indeed there is to be another GA volume that we don't already know about (or think we know about, like Plas 5 and All-Star 9).

Bob, what's the ownership/rights situation with regard to Torchy?
Very un-PC, but I'd bet it would sell well enough to make the company overlook that....

If I don't get my GA Flash Archives, I will have to hurt one or more persons. Just letting you know, I can't help it if I lose control.

I'd been hoping that the '80s Adam Strange miniseries had been quietly dropped out of continuity, or at least reclassified as an Elseworlds story, kind of like the egregious Twilight. It's not a whole lot less offensive.

Given the laboroious time required to recreate black line pages when film does not exist (all Golden Age stories and some from the Silver Age), then color them, then print them in Hong Kong, you're talking quite a production schedule. Let's use SPECTRE. Work on the book technically should have begun on May 15, 2002 for it to be in store March 5. We didn't even approve the project until our June meeting so already we started late.

DYNMAIC DUO, where we already had film but needed to recolor it, required work to behgin June 12 for being in store February 5.

So, before we begin work, we need to plan and discuss. In the case of LEGION, where there was a serious editorial issue, we need to have that conversation at least a month prior to work beginning.

With that in mind, we already need to start planning the first quarter of 2004's Archives. Fortunately, a recent survey and its results should help....

The HUSH hardcover is based on the demand for the individual comics. The first five issues make up a fine arc and stands pretty well on its own. So yes, there is a plan for a second collection with the remaining issues. Jim Lee has designed both covers and is working on the first one now. He did an amazing job on BATMAN HUSH DOUBLE FEATURE's new cover, as you will see on February 26.

Supergirl's sales have certainly been fine of late, but too little too late and the book really is done.

Have you re-read the JOKER series from the 1970s? It's not high on my list of stuff to put back into print.

Sure, collecting all of the Dini/Ross tabloids has come up. Nothing official as of now.

RIMA is likely in the public domain and if we were serious about collecting it, we could do a quick search and know for certain.

GOLDEN AGE FLASH ARCHIVES is not a dead series, certainl moribund due to slow sales and demand for other GA collections.

Adam Strange is a frequent topic for Archiving so cross your fingers.

Might I make a proposal regarding Golden Age Flash Vol 2?

1) Please skip the All-Flash and Comic Cavalcade material. Comic Cavalcade is already compromised because Wonder Woman and Golden Age Green Lantern are not included. There are no "essential to modern continity" stories in All-Flash til about #12, editions away. Push come to shove, I would prefer you re-create that one anyone as it is a full-issue story (It's the origin of the Thinker) as a replica edition.

2) If you follow #1, and pad the book a little, you can cover Flash Comics #18-36. #35 is the first appearance of the Shade (or maybe #33, amazing that I used to remember all this) and #36 is definetly the first appearance of the Rag Doll. The Rag Doll story, in addition to be "relevant" is also a very good story. Admittedly, this will push you to ~230 of content not included covers and editorial material. Hence #3.

3) Raise the price to $60. I appreciate that you are experimenting with smaller volumes for a lower price but please try the upper end. I am willing to pay a premium to get this material out there. If they are 20% away from being in the range, boost the price by 20% and drive it home. I imagine I am not alone in this, esp if you throw in just a little extra material.

On other subjects:

I love that Joker series. It was zany.

It's important to keep in mind that most of us were introduced to collections like this by reprint projects in the 70's. An biannual "faux annual" or replica edition would be groovy

D.

I'm dying to see the story where Hippolyta leads the Amazons into battle against Gudra and her Valkyries from CC #20!

Well, I think Bob already replied to this question, but he said that they are thinking about something along those lines, IIRC (if I dont, someone will correct me)

Isnt that a bit harsh? I mean, I just bought the whole series (minus #15) and it wasnt that bad (it sucked, but it wasnt THAT bad).

Concerning the recent Adam Strange TPB I have a question that came up during a conversation with a couple of friends of mine.

Why this? And why now? Mind you Im not complaining; Ive been searching for this for a couple of years now (its hard to be a comic book reader in Portugal!), but there are tons of stuff more recent that are begging for a TPB (take Legion Lost for example).

How do you choose what is collected in a TPB?

Oh and something I forgot.

In the recent DC Direct Channel #606 we find the following:

> BACK TO PRESS!
> CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS TP (STAR16062) (2nd printing)

Does this mean that chances are high for a second volume? (BTW, to those fine folks who map the Archives, could anyone map these team-ups?)

And we also find this:

> SOLD OUT!
> WHY I HATE SATURN SC (STAR08467)

Will "Why I Hate Saturn" be put back on print?

Concerning a couple of HCs: when will Willpower and Last Testament and Judgement of Hal Jordan be released in SC? I hope I dont have to wait the same time I did with Superman for all Seasons (yes, the wait was worthwhile).

Thanks.
