Why would you have the last storyarc from PAD's run in the 2nd trade when there's all the issues in between the 2 trades still uncollected?

I'm not Bob but maybe I can give a reasonable answer. Until #75 I was an off and on reader of Supergirl generally buying it if the solicits seemed interesting. For instance I made a point to buy all the Mary Marvel issues because she's my favorite super heroine. But in general, the Chaos Stream/Earth Angel stuff was off-putting and sometimes confusing. #75-#80 has the return of Kara Zor-El, as sweet and lovable as ever, it has Linda Danvers has a Supergirl in her own right with no baggage weighing her down. It has excited old Kara fans like my aunt who grew up with her and new SG/Linda fans like me who thought Peter David had lost his touch. Any fan buying #75-80 doesn't really need to know much of what went on before besides that Matrix is no longer Supergirl and Linda is. It's a perfect jumping off point for the character even if the title is cancelled.

Another thing if someone could answer for me,
has the origin of the Hal Jordan/Spectre - Day of Judgement ever been published in any TBP form? I'll admit to being an inconsistent reader of the Spectre series but I've been buying it since I heard it was going to be cancelled and I know DeMattis said that DC wants Hal to remain as Spectre (obviously Hal as Spectre will be around awhile) so I'm wondering if I have to go hunting for the Day of Judgement mini in floppy form or is it available in some sort of collected form?

Another weekend goes, Tampa Bay wins a Super Bowl (about time, now Let's Go Jets in 2003!) and I have more questions to ask.

We've had Sgt. Rock Archives and Enemy Ace Archives, both excellent books. Will both continue, is Enemy Ace a 2 Archive book anyhow (not too familiar with how many stories there are), and what chance is there for The Haunted Tank to be the next war title to be archived (and hopefully have a DC Direct Toy tie-in to boot)?

I know Bat Lash keeps being mentioned as a collection. Any comments on the following possibilities:

Challengers of the Unknown, Adam Strange, Silver Age Teen Titans, Jonah Hex, House of Mystery, The Metal Men.

Questions I've asked before but have yet to get a reply: Any chance on collecting The Monster Society of Evil? The Question by Denny o'Neil and Denys Cowan? Wasteland by John Ostrander and Del Close? Zot! by Scott McCloud? E-Man?

Whatever happened to the following announced trades, if you have any inside info: The Big Book of Wild Women (Paradox), and the Greatest 1960's Stories Ever Told?

I'm guess that since the Millenium Editions didnt go over too well, sales-wise, we won't get a series of second issue facsimilie editions, like Flash Comics # 2, Whiz Comics # 3, etc. I'm still waiting to see how that dummy story from Flash Comics # 1 turned out.

Any chance of putting out an Alan Moore trade, collecting much of the scattered DC work that he did, ala Neil Gaiman's Midnight Days? I'm thinking Superman Annual, DC Comics Presents, Green Lantern Corps stories, etc.

And would that help in any small part in getting a Watchmen hardcover out. Just say no comment if any yes/no answer brings problems.

Oh, any chance on a Jonah Hex: Riders of the Worm and Such collection, or did the lawsuit with the Winter brothers pretty much put the kibosh on that idea? Just curious. Vertigo should have done a regular Jonah Hex series.

Thanks again for your time.

*snort* *giggle* *BWAHHH HAA HAAA*

Sorry, but the Haunted Tank is the current patron saint of lost causes. It was revealed last summer that this is DC's in-house joke for an unlikely Archive. Or something like that.

Ask again in 5 years.

Challengers of the Unknown,

Coming in May or June will be "Challengers of the Unknown Archives, V1" You can find the details buried on the back pages of this board.

Adam Strange, Silver Age Teen Titans, Jonah Hex, House of Mystery, The Metal Men.

Nothing on the horizon, as far as Archives. An Adam Strange TPB collection of a '90s mini-series will be out in April.

Someone proposed the idea several pages back in this thread, and Bob seemed to like the idea.

1. Will the All Star Archives line continue publication with the 70's run after the Golden Age material is exhausted?

2. Is a Robin Archives from the Star Spangled run a priority for DC? If not, how come?

Well, Super Bowls go, this one wasn't bad. Ads weren't as cool as prevous years and the Hulk's CGI looked unfinished. Now we can get on with anticipation for spring training to begin.

You guys know this board stuff far better than me so whenever you think we've grown unwieldly, tell me we're shutting it down and we'll start up another 1000 post thread.

The Gibbons GL collection is intriguing but unfortunately, in re-reading the stuff you will see such unfulfilled potential since many fo the threads, like the Predator, were never resolved by Len Wein and Dave Gibbons. Just about all those threads fell to subsequent writers and artists to conclude. As a result, it'd be a pretty collection to look at and a dissatisfying one to read.

Supergirl had issues #1-9 collected along with the SHOWCASE intro. And a poster gave you the exact answer: lack of demand.

Editor Stephen Wacker made the recommendations for the JL ADVENTURES collection. Since they were all one-off stories, he picked th eones he thought held up best. Remember, our collections do not usually promise to be all inclusive. We do, though, try and come up with stories we think the fan and the casual reader will enjoy.

FLASH #104 was an editorial decision based on showing readers the transition from the Golden Age to the Silver Age. With Barry Allen saying he was inspired by the Flash comics of his youth, it figured showing the readers one would be useful.

The Greatest 1960s Stories Ever Told, a two-volume extravaganza that Paul Kupperberg and I had a hand in, was ultimately canceled because at the time the sales on the previous volumes were deemed disappointing. Were we to try the GREATEST line again, who knows how they'd sell.

Yeah, the Alan Moore Omnibus thread goes back well into December. It's something we're hoping to produce.

There was a WATCHMEN hardcover, even a Graphitti Designs edition if I recall. They sold out and the trade is a perennial best seller.

Oh, and to the HUSH debaters: if Jim Lee says there's going to be a 12-issue HUSH collection, who am I to argue? Price will certainly play a large factor in how the bookstore readers react to the two smaller volumes or a large single volume. Contents will also play a role. People who read the first HC might dislike the story and stay away. Others might love it and wait for the combo volume or buy the two smaller HCs to keep their bookshelves consistent. It's very much like Mark Alessi's argument over his formats: some people like 6 oz. sodas or the 2-liter bottle. Something for everyone--no one insists you buy it all. Well, Bob Wayne maybe, but you get the point.

One quick question for Mr. Greenberger: Will we see "America Vs. the Justice Society" as part of the All-Star Archives?

Bob, in another thread you wrote
regarding all star comics archives

"We've mapped out the final run of All Star Archives and will produce them thorugh volume 11. When each one comes out, well, that's another matter"

Does this mean you won't be continuing the
one year one release track you've been on
for the final 3 volumes?

it might be longer than 3 years? shorter?

or you just have no idea hehe ?

be well!

Doug

Hey Bob,

Quick question which might have been answered somewhere in these 34 pages which I don't have the time to read but I was just wondering, any plans to do anymore of the Wolfman/Perez Titans Archives? I have volume 1 and actually, the whole series in issues but love it in the archives format because the reproduction makes Perez's art look that much more beautiful and so worth the price. Actually, I want the whole run archived. With the TV show coming out, it might be a good idea to put out another edition.

I heard you are doing one of the original Titans but I have no interest in it.

Also, when you do the softcover reprint of the Titans baxter series 1-5, will George be doing a new cover? Will he also be doing a new cover for his WW collection as well? I know he is contracted to Crossgen...

The rumored Titans Archive is apparently NTT Vol. 2, so it looks like you get your wish! (to the chagrin of others, like myself, who are awaiting Vol. 1 of the Originals!) :-)

OK, an internet search has answered my question for me. There's been no Day of Judgement TPB.

So Bob this one's for you. I know DC has plans to issue/re-issue a bunch of Hal Jordan/GL TBPs this year but his origin as the Spectre hasn't been collected yet? I'm taking just the Geoff Johns written mini not all the numerous crossover issues. I know the recent Spectre series won't get collected but I think considering Hal's continued popularity and Geoff John's rise in prominence, a TPB of the new Spectre's beginnings wouldn't be amiss. Especially if Hal as Spectre will continue to be used in the DCU.

WOWWEEEE! Only 19 All-Star stories left to be in archives?? Cool!

Since there have been a few All-Star Archive questions, mine should fit in.

Bob, I don't know if you follow Roy Thomas' Alter-Ego, or his All-Star Companion book from TwoMorrows. If not, the last 2 years, Roy has amassed a lot of art from the unpublished JSA story "The Will of William Wilson." I believe he has the entire opening sequence and the ending, and bits and pieces of the individual chapters. I believe he has 47% of the art and story for this story. Is there a possibility of reprinting this story in a future All-Star Archives.? Apparently, this story was a tax write off in the late 40's for DC, and the art was sliced into thirds. No one knows why. As far as filling in what's missing, hey, original All-Star artists Carmine Infantino, Alex Toth, and Joe Kubert are still with us. As far as writing it goes, I'd have to imagine Roy Thomas could do a great imitation of Gardner Fox's style, as much as he's studied it.

Any possibility here?

I second Utley's ideas of including the stuff from All-Star not related to the main story. I'll never own the issues, so this is my only chance to see it.

Thanks, Bob!

And I third it.
In fact, I'd like to see the Johnny Peril stories included. It is, after all, the All-Star Comics Archives, not the Justice Society of America Archives.

All Star Archives is committed to running through the GA run of the title. So, we have 19 stories and three volumes as our map-makers have pointed out. Sure, it'd be cool to run something on the unpublished story. Will it be redrawn and finished? I doubt it. Will we run every existing piece of art? Check back in two-three years. As for the timing of the volumes, right now they show up annually but I'm not swearing it will remain so.

A Robin Archives has come up but no, it's not a priority in my mind.

George Perez is under contract to CrossGen and every page he does for DC beyond that contract really should be for JLA/Avengers so it finally sees print in 2004 or so. Right now we do not have a title for the first volume of his WW collection.

Day of Judgment has been considered for collection but other stuff keeps getting picked ahead of it.

Batgirl is a cool character, one of my personal faves, but her first volume of stories would repeat Dynamic Duo Archives so it's not likely to happen. Mabe a few years down the road we can revisit the notion with her back-up stories from 'TEC.

Hi, Bob-
As always, I tip my hat to you for your continued involvement on this board. It's very appreciated! I apologize if this question's already been asked but:

I read somewhere (here, perhaps) that you were brought in by DC to help map out the GA Superman and Batman Archives. If so, can you tell us how many volumes of each were mapped out?

Also, what is the thought process that goes into deciding the color of the Archive cover banners? Sure, this might seem like a trivial question, but why (for example) is both Superman AND Shazam colored with gold? Why is The Atom yellow, when the primary colors of his suit were red and blue? Some of the choices seem obvious ("fatigue" green for Sgt. Rock) and others seem a bit strange (orange for World's Finest). Any ideas or opinions on this?

Hi.

Another question.

With the coming Dini-Ross project starring the classic JLA team, is there a way that some stories like Zatanna's search for Sindella (160-165) could be published in a softcover or something? It's going to take years before they are finally printed in Archives.

I'd be interested in this too. When I did it, I also treated Action #241, and by extension, Superman #122, as the start of the Silver Age. I got 14 volumes of Action Comics, 22 of Superman and 4 of Superman in World's Finest. Just 32 Golden Age volumes to go!

As for Batman, I haven't done him yet.
