Just for the record, I feel that the Legion archives should include those stories outside of the main comic which feature significant appearances of the Legion. I would thus expect the Legion archives to include Karate Kid #1, 6, 10, 12 & 13.

I challenge anyone to go back and just read these issues if they have them. These issues can be read without the surrounding series, and make sense, and indeed, seem pretty relevant. What little continuity exists with the other Karate Kid issues isn't significant enough to warrant any other issues inclusion.

For the record, I feel the next volumes should include:

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #13:
(14 stories - 198 pages - 1977)
Karate Kid 6,
S&LOSH 223-227,
DC Special 28,
S&LOSH 228-230,
Karate Kid 10,
S&LOSH 231

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #14:
(9 stories - 202 pages - 1977/78)
Justice League of America 147-148,
S&LOSH 232,
DC SuperStars 17,
S&LOSH 233-234,
Karate Kid 12-13

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #15:
(8 stories - 197 pages - 1978)
S&LOSH 235-236,
All-New Collector's Edition C-55,
S&LOSH 237,
S&LOSH 239

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #16:
(9 stories - 177 pages - 1978)
S&LOSH 240-245

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #17:
(13 stories - 191 pages -1978/79)
S&LOSH 246-254,
DC Comics Presents 13

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #18:
(13 stories - 199 pages - 1979/80)
S&LOSH 255-258,
LOSH 259-262,
Holiday Special,
LOSH 263-265

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #19:
(8 stories - 167 pages - 1980/81)
LOSH 266-272

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #20:
(8 stories - 187 pages - 1981)
Secrets of the LOSH 1-3,
LOSH 273-275,
Superman Family 207,
LOSH 276

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVES #21:
(8 stories - 208 pages - 1981/82)
LOSH 277-280,
Brave & the Bold 179,
LOSH 281-283

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVES #22:
(14 stories - 252 pages - 1982)
LOSH 284,
DC Comics Presents 43,
LOSH 285-287,
Best of DC 24,
LOSH 288-289,
LOSH Annual 1,
World's Finest 284

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE #23:
(7 stories - 160 pages - 1982/83)
LOSH 290-295

Well anyway, that is one scenerio. I was being a bit conservative in the page counts of the future archives, but also allowed room for extra-length editions when necessary. One of my goals was not to break up multi-part stories. In any event, that gets us up to the Darkseid saga by 2013, hopefully. And maybe by then, we'll all be more interested in purchasing archives of 1980's material...

I haven't read it all the way through, but glancing over the "Karate Kid" historical overview at the end of the Archive left me with the impression that DC wasn't at all interested in including any other issues of the series in the Archives.

I'm glad I bought it just for the sake of having it in this format but a friend of mine made the comment the other day after purchaing it himself that its a shame to spend $50.00 on an archive when you could probably buy all the single issues for that much money. Maybe not near mint copies but you get the idea.

Does everyone here think that DC will continue the Legion archives till the very last appearance in the original book?

That will depend on how well it continues to sell, I suspect. They're not going to stop printing them unless we stop buying them.

I was wondering if the entire cover from the Limited Collectors Edition was reprinted in this volume. Can anyone tell me if it was? If so, how did they do it? I would guess a lot of the detail could be lost in the spine.

I'd buy a Legion Archives every month if DC decided to publish them with that frequency, but I do have a couple of complaints:
1) There are problems with the art reproduction -- I don't know if it's a printing problem or a reconstruction problem. Look at Cosmic Boy on the cover -- his blobby-ink undefined black hair and blurry lack-of-detail face belongs in one of those shoddily done Marvel Essentials, not an upscale Archives. The other characters on the cover don't look much better in terms of cleanly defined lines, Superboy being the exception. (And poor Saturn Girl, somebody left the color out of her eyes ...) A similar "blobbiness of line" appeared throughout the Karate Kid reprint.
2) Speaking of the Karate Kid reprint -- it wasted precious space. The text pages explaining "The Karate Kid Story" were all that was needed -- interested parties could then hunt down the KK series in quarter bins. Is there official word from the- powers-that-be on reprinting more of this series in the Legion Archives? Let me add my voice to those who say, "Please don't."

Other than that, it was fun seeing the 2970's through the filter of the 1970's, but was anyone else shocked when Cosmic Boy slugged Light Lass in the story about the one day of the year he's not allowed to use his powers? Geez, she was just arguing a point with him -- hope the guy went for counseling off panel ...

Someone recently spoke to Bob G. who said they will be including a few more relevant issues, but not all of them. For instance, there's a two-parter which involves Karate Kid going back to 30th century Orando with Projectra.

The cover of the reprint Limited Collectors Edition was printed in volume 12 - over two pages. I honestly didn't eye it enough yet to tell you how much was lost (I'm currently reading vol 9 so vol 12 hit the shelf until I catch up).

I checked the two page spread and NOTHING is lost on this cover. Projectra's legs flow from the front to the back just fine as if the spine was not even there (I guess they over compensated on each end of the picture so that the spine would not affect the art).

Bob G. recently sent me an email, a portion of which I posted to another thread.

Would you mind noting on one of the Legion Vol. 12 threads that the KK piece was by yours truly? Dale omitted the by-line by mistake. Also, people should note the covers used were the non-Legion crossovers, implying we intend to include the Legion-specific issues in subsequent volumes. So, the answer at long last is: we're cherry-picking KK to include in the Archive run.

Hi! I'm a regular at the Legion boards, and I just picked up my copy of #12 today. I was very excited about this one because these were the issues I had as a kid, my very first impressions of the Legion. The cover reproduction was awful. I am very, VERY familiar with Grell's Legion artwork. This cover almost sucked all the character out of Grell's original. Okay, moving on...
I was thrilled (as I was with most of the previous 11 editions) to see the crisp colors of these classic pages! However, I began to spot coloring error after coloring error after coloring error! The pleasure I had felt at first was replaced by disappointment and a touch of anger. Why wasn't this edited more carefully? Why wasn't the linework reconstruction done by someone who knows Grell's style? Why did I shell out all that money for a book that irritates me? What is my recourse? I don't think this is the comic book shop's fault. Who do I direct this complaint to?

I haven't spent any time reading through this whole thread, it's quite long. I'm new to the Archive Editions board, and hate to start off so negatively, but I feel like I've been burned. Any input from you regulars?

I haven't bought it yet, but is the cover a reconstruction or did Grell draw a new one?

It's a reconstruction of elements of his cover to a tabloid edition book back in the 70's. I don't know, but it looks like the characters were completely re-inked... and I'm sorry... poorly.

After I posted my first little rant, I went back through the edition again, expecting to feel kinda silly about complaining about a few miscolored spots within SO many pages of art.... BUT what happened was that I found EVEN MORE mistakes!!!! RRRRR!
Feh!

Knowing that there's plenty of us LEGION fans that know every freakin' color-scheme to EVERY era of costumes along with skin color, hair color, eye color...

It irks me to think DC isn't paying one of US to color the freakin' thing. I'd do it for a comp copy of the archive!

I'm only up to LSH archives 9 (and REALLY looking forward to getting the all-Cockrum no. 10) but seeing Ultra Boy's ADVENTURE-era mint-green miscolored as BROWN torqued me off.

I think I'll stop at vol 11 if 12 is THIS bad (and I know Dean is a huge Legon fan, so I believe him!)

Get a Legion FAN to color this series, PLEASE!!!!!!!

Dean,

Email Bob Greenberger and complain if you feel that strongly about the coloring errors. At least you'll know the right person we'll get your complaint.

Anyone know Bob Greeneburger's email address?

Lash, on the SPLASH PAGE of "The Super Soldiers of the Slave-Maker" story (S/LSH #220), Lightning Lad is standing there in his navy and white costume with the yellow lightning bolts across his chest, and he has A GREEN FACE AND BLONDE (yellow) HAIR!!!! They colored him like he was Brainy!!! Hello!!! Did the LIGHTNING BOLTS NOT TIP YOU OFF!!!?!!!

It's one of many, many mistakes like that. I'm so affected by this, I'm thinking of going through this whole book and noting each and every mistake.

......deep breaths......
