Hey!! Just because her hair made her look like a Lhasa Apsu after a chemical plant explosion is no reason to hate her. Her mewly little "personality". That's the reason to hate her!! My I just re-read that. A Simon Cowell moment for Bgztl. Sorry. Boy, I didn't like her back then. I wanted a Karate Kid series to be set on Orando with Val, Projectra, et al. LOL! You know, if you found all of the issues in the quarter bin you should put them in a lot and sell it on ebay. You'd be surprised what you'd get for it. IP: Logged |

I vote not to include them in the LEGION Archives. It would be consistent with the other 11 Archive volumes NOT to include the KARATE KID issues. The KARATE KID issues are new enough that the back issues are inexpensive, easy to find, and outside the LEGION series. I prefer to keep the Archive series pure LEGION only.

I'd vote to keep the KK run out of the Archives as well. I like the idea of a separate TPB for them. And, although it isn't the question, I'd also like to request that, if the Archives start becoming unecomical, that DC print the Legion reprints in TPB form. The archives long ago passed into the area of issues that I own, and I would love to have as much of the series as possible in book form. IP: Logged |

I've stopped buying Legion Archives, but if I were still buying them, I wouldn't buy the collected Karate Kid. Karate Kid was krap. I also don't think that Legion Three or whatever it was, or the Cosmic Boy series, or any of the nine million one-panel appearances of (sigh, he's so fine) Mon-El or all the Superboy appearances ever, not to mention all the Supergirl appearances and Jimmy Olsen and Lana Lang, Crisis crossovers, JLA crossovers, Sovereign 7 crossovers, plus the Super-Pets should be included UNLESS they are pertinent to actual Legion core stories. Just KARATE KID # 1 should be included in the next Archives. I don't think the rest of the series is necessary.IP: Logged |

I am dying to get the next archive of the LSH stories. But please do not include the KK stories. Only team and other core stories please. Otherwise, us fans, who have been waiting a long time to see some of the stories, would have to wait even longer. (For instance, some of us have yet to get a copy of the Lightning Lad/Saturn Girl wedding!) IP: Logged |

I'm a bit of a latecomer to this discussion. A couple of months ago I posted a message inquiring about the (much-awaited) next archive. But I didn't receive any useful information. But as to your question, I would buy it for the LSH stories incorporated within. However, I would be quite irritated at having to put out $50 for Karate Kid stories that are not part of the core canon. quote: Originally posted by outpost2: The only question is, would people BUY Volume 14 as is?

Okay...you've convinced me fully....to wait another FIVE YEARS (!), at least, for Garth and Imra's wedding and the Earth War is not worth incorporating Karate Kid into the archives. I remember enjoying some of them. But they aren't team material and just weren't connected enough to the Legion continuity to warrant including them. quote: Originally posted by outpost2: Just for yucks, here is the layout of all the volumes needed to cover the entire KARATE KID series. Volumes 12 and 13 would remain as I posted previously. The two-part JLA team-up in Volume 14 totally screws up the flow of Volume 16, so the JLA issues have been removed. VOLUME 12

Exactly. It is one of the best JLA/JSA cross-over stories. AND, a fabulous get-to-know you between the Legion, the JLA and the JSA. I don't want to wait 5 or 10 years to get these into my collection. M quote: Originally posted by Corrosive Kid: Oh, and regarding the JSA/JLA/LSH crossover: it has to be included in the Legion Archives. It's one of those things which people are waiting for, like the wedding tabloid. It's unfair to Legion fans to expect them to pick up a Justice League Archive just to get those issues. People can't assume that Legion fans also purchase other archive lines. Speaking for myself, I don't own a single JLA Archive, and I would be pretty POed to to have to get one in order to see a story which also belongs somewhere else. The Supergirl stories which featured the Legion have been reprinted in both the Supergirl and the Legion archives, so why wouldn't DC put the JLA/JSA/LSH crossover in both the JLA and LSH Archives? It just doesn't make sense.

If indeed, you are correct, and the LSH archive sales are slowing down, then, we want to ensure that the archives do cover the Earth War story arc before the series is discontinued. Let's not have solo shots or insignificant cameos diminish sales further before the archives reach that high point in the Legion's history. Even without KK, it's still four volumes away! (Which means at least four years IF DC produces one volume a year.) quote: Originally posted by BearPaws:
Archive sales are slowing down for LSH as it is -- cutting the LSH content roughly in half to accomodate a supporting character in an unrelated storyline can't help keep the numbers up. IMHO, most readers (not us fanboys) would appreciate them not being included.

Exactly.I'm a JLA fan. But I wouldn't buy their archives. I'm not THAT big a fan. However, I would love to have the JLA/JSA/Legion cross-over in my collection. quote: Originally posted by Corrosive Kid: You're assuming that consumers will be buying all three editions. Again, it's not fair to someone who only buys the Legion Archives to expect them to hunt down a Justice League Archive for two issues, or a TPB of the JLA/JSA crossovers for the same reason. Virtually the whole story takes place in the 30th Century (at least, that's how I remember it) so it's more a Legion story than anything else. There wasn't a note in Supergirl Archives Vol. 1 to run out and buy Legion Archives Vol. 1 for stories which featured the Legion; why should the JLA/JSA/LSH crossover be any different? Again, just because a customer buys one archive line, DC can't assume that they buy them all (or force them to).

PERFECT!14B and 15B please. So have we heard further news about the forthcoming archive? Seems that San Diego moved the decision towards including only a couple of issues of KK. quote: Originally posted by outpost2: The following is what we get by eliminating all KARATE KID issues except for issue #1. Picking and choosing from the KK series is really not an option. The Legionnaires tended to appear in single chapters of multi-part storylines, so you end up needing to include more than two-thirds of the entire series. So it's really all or nothing. Also, I broke down the volumes based on whether or not the JLA team-ups are included. It turns out that the two-parter is a freebie since, whether you include the JLA tales or not, Volume 15 ends with SUPERBOY # 245. So why not get fatter Archives at the same price? DC needs to do the JLA material anyway for the Justice League Archives, so why not give us the pages for "free" in the Legion line as a "thank you" for supporting 15 volumes? VOLUME 12

I'd be happy if the LSH Archives include KK#1 and a few relevant issues -- not the whole run if it's not germane -- and The JLA/LSH/JSA team-up. I'd be even happier if accelerated publication of LSH Archives (one every 6-9 months) got us through Earthwar in a few years. Then, we can return to a yearly schedule. ------------------ Aldo Alvarez author of INTERESTING MONSTERS : Fictions (Graywolf Press) http://www.blithe.com/aa/ IP: Logged |

It would be nice if Vol. 12 collected Superboy #213-224, so that all the Mike Grell issues would be collected in two volumes. Save Karate Kid for Vol. 13. (And please don't reprint the entire Karate Kid series. #1 will be fine.)IP: Logged |

I don't EVEN see what all the debate is about. Hello....? Karate Kid the series??? Does anyone ELSE think it's one of the worst and most derivative comics series ever produced? They only did it to capitalize on the "Kung Fu" craze that was sweeping the nation in the early 70s. Do any of you think it's a coincidence that KK looks so bloody much like Bruce Lee in that particular series???Come on, you guys. I do not want to waste my Archive dollars on this dumb series. You can probably all run out and find it at some convention; all 15 issues for about a dollar. IP: Logged |

But aren't archives suppose to be historical collections of WHAT WAS GOING ON AT THE TIME? And, for better or worse, there was a "kung fu" fad in the 1970s, and, capitalizing on that, DC put out Karate Kid (making him the first LEGION SPIN-OFF!) Not only that, but Nemesis Kid (Val's eventual killer) was in issue #1, and Sadaharu (the Black Dragon) was in issue #10... I've looked through these recently, and will freely admit these aren't the greatest stories of all...BUT at least half of them have at least TWO Legion members (Val & Jeckie) in them in active roles. TOTALLY ignoring these stories would be similar to saying Green Arrow started with Denny O'Neil in Green Lantern #76...(well, okay, that is a BIT extreme, but still...) IP: Logged |
