Well, this is very good news. Since I have the original volumes, I won't be picking up the issued ones, but I think this bodes well for the continuation of the series beyond the first 32. While I'm not anal enough to buy 28-32 just to get the matching dustjackets to the first 27, I am anal enough to buy just the last 5 dustjackets (without the books) if they offered them seperately. Any chance of that, dylanfan? IP: Logged |

I think there is very little chance of that. I hope to find out definitively very soon, though. ------------------ IP: Logged |

More from Marvel on Masterworks. Details about coloring, paper quality, and instances of "remastering." Check it out at the "news" section of my website, linked below. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Why would Marvel release FF vol.1 and then FF vol.3?! This makes no sense to me at all. Where is FF vol.2?! The Marvel Masterworks are very frustrating. IP: Logged |

There's more info on dylanfan's web site, but here's the short version. Marvel has some sort of agreement with their printer which makes it economical for them to work on all the ones which have the same number of pages first. Marvel has announced the ones that they've finished. I think that within a few months, we will see all of the original 32 volumes solicited and that the shipping dates will make sense (for instance, FF 2 will be released after FF 1 and before FF3). So it appears that Marvel is using some logic, just not communicating it to the general public. Hope that helps. IP: Logged |

Somehow I never got around to picking up any Masterworks the first time around, and then I've been waiting it out the last few years, but with this new "re-mastering", I'm ready to finally take advantage of my dumb luck. Now my question is this - I walk into a comics shop on May 28th to pick up FF vol. 1 - what do I look for? I'm totally clueless here, and I want to make sure I pick up the "remastered" version, but I'm not sure what it looks like (is there a picture of the cover previewed somewhere?) As a newcomer, I want to get off on the right foot, so any help would be much appreciated. IP: Logged |

Hang out at dylanfan's website and boards. All will be revealed. For a preview of what to expect, got to Barnes & Noble (brick and mortar, not .com) and look at the paperback versions B&N just issued. Word is, these have the remastering. Certainly, the "Spider-Man, V1" at B&N doesn't match my HC I bought last year. If you are concerned about other factors, do what I intend to do: wait. There were so many production gaffes last year that I refused to buy any more Masterworks. Maybe they heard me (earlier in this thread and over on dylanfan's boards), because last year's effort was quickly abandonded. I want to see what the production looks like before spending another cent. If I like it, and I don't hear too many complaints from others, then early next year, I will start buying Masterworks again. Osgood...FF Vol. 1 is easy. If you see it in the new silver and black trade dress, it's the remastered edition. The only books you will have to worry about are the five that were released in the new silver and black trade dress in early '02. They are the following: 1- X-Men Vol. 1 Subby will be easy to spot, as it will have the "DARDEVIL" misspelling on the front cover corrected. Spider-Man Vol. 2 will be easy to spot, as it will list the contents as ASM #11-19 and Annual #1, which is different from last year's book (which was ASM #11-20.) As to how to tell the difference between the other three, I am not sure how. I don't know if the ISBN will be different or not, and I haven't heard about any stickers to be put on the seal. If you pre-order from your comics guy, the Diamond order number will certainly be new. Make sure to match it up to what the announced contents will be, which you can find at my site at the following link: ------------------ IP: Logged |

By the bye, here's the changes announced for the five volumes that have already seen print in the silver and black trade dress: Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1: Collects Amazing Fantasy #15 and #1-10. Fully recolored to match the original issues. The pinup pages from ASM Annual #1 have been pulled, the pinup from #3 has been correctly associated with the issue (previously in Vol. 2), a bonus page from ASM #1 has been added and Ditko’s unused covers to Amazing Fantasy #15 and ASM #1 have been included as bonus items. Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2: Collects #11-19, Annual #1. Annual #1 has been shifted into this volume to its correct chronological placement. All 72-pages of the annual will be printed in their entirety for the first time, including fourteen pages of previously unreprinted material. #20 shifts from this volume to Vol. 3 to maintain the $49.99 price point. Avengers Vol. 1: Collects #1-10. The Captain America pinup from #10 (previously seen in Cap Masterworks) moves to its correct placement in this volume. Sub-Mariner Vol. 1: Collects Marvel Comics #1, Daredevil #7 and Tales to Astonish #70-87. The sole interior change is the inclusion of the Marvel Comics #1 cover at full size. The spelling error on the dustjacket has been corrected X-Men Vol. 1: Collects #1-10. Now includes the pinups from #6, 8 and 9. Covers have been corrected to match the original’s coloring. The changes to the first two Spidey books are substantive enough that folks might really want to add those to their collections, even if they have the original books. The other three are a little less urgent in that the changes range from cosmetic (changing errors, enlarging cover artwork) to minor (a few extra pinups added.) There might be the opportunity to score the 2002 versions of these books at reduced prices if you're willing to pass on the remastering improvements. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Since Hulk Volume 1 comes out today, I thought that this deserved a bump. I ordered mine from Tales of Wonder, so I probably won't get it until next week, but I'm interested in what everybody else thinks of it. IP: Logged |

Dylanfan, Do you know if there has been any improvement in the line art reprodcution on the early Spider-Man volumes? Glenn IP: Logged |

quote: This issue will speak volumes of how the collecting public may recieve futher Masterworks. The last batch had a few problem, with the slim slick paper being the most obvious. Will this Masterwork have paper like the original Masterworks or will Marvel continue with the slimmer kind and force readers to wait a few years as the rippling effects subsides? I want so much to have Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four thru 1974,but I need to relise the masterworks survival is not hedged on weather I purchase Daredevil vol.1 or not. In otherwords, I may be purchasing only a few select masterworks and saving the bulk for when and if Incedible Hulk Masterwork vol.7 (Incredible Hulk 131 thru 140) hits the stands IP: Logged |

My retailer had 2 versions of the Hulk on the shelves yesterday. One looked liked the Old School version, but the other didn't look like one of those ridiculously-designed Comicraft version. Which is the newest? Which is best quality? ------------------ Michael IP: Logged |

You can purchase it at your leisure, as it will be staying in print (what a concept!) ------------------ IP: Logged |
