Not counting the JSA members that already have an Archive or Announced Archive, if you had a choice, choose in order by number the JSA members that you would like to see in Archive form in order of importance to you: __ Sandman ------------------ IP: Logged |

My choices: 4. Sandman 5. Hourman 6. Johnny Thunder 1. Scribbly/Red Tornado 2. Hawkman 3. Dr. Fate 9. Mr. Terrific 7. Wildcat 10. Atom 8. Dr. Mid-Nite The first four I hope to see in the next two years. The last six could really come in any order, as long as we get one volume each. IP: Logged |

I'm going to cheat a little. I have 3 co-leaders, meaning I want them #1, 2, and 3, in any order. JUST GET THEM DONE! After that, it's a little easier. 1 Dr. Fate 4 Red Tornado IP: Logged |

Dr. Fate Hawkman Sandman Hourman Wildcat Dr. Midnite I eagerly await the first four; I'm mildly interested in Wildcat, based on the Millenium edition reprint of Sensation #1. I'd probably never buy the last four. And I really can't justify putting Scribbly/Red Tornado on this list. It deserves to be archived on its own merits, but it shouldn't be considered as a JSA tie-in strip based on a panel or two. Cole IP: Logged |

Ooohh, hard choice. 1__ Sandman If the Tornado sneaks in there, couldn't we make an allowance for the Star Spangled Kid too? He'd be above Mr Terrific and the Atom on my list. IP: Logged |

I wouldn't buy any of these characters but I'll give you one name for the sake of a poll. Dr Fate. Because he's original - he's a mixture of Dr Strange and the Spectre... Friend. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well, I will be contrary -- to some anyway -- on the purely personal level that I don't like Wildcat and probably never will. Even if he was written by Bill Finger and drawn by Irwin Hasen. My ranking/list would look like this:
Sandman becomes a little tepid towards the end of his suit and hat days and Dr. Fate definitely dips in quality around about More Fun Comics # 80 or so. But both should have SOLID volume 1's. With Hourman, my enthusiasm definitely drops off precipitously. I've read all the Hourman stories now and only the first handful or so really grabbed me. Johnny Thunder's bizarre charms are amusing and I would buy the archive, but you can see where it starts to go downhill long before it starts to go UPhill IMO I shall not rain on anyone else's parade! ------------------ All of human wisdom is summed up in two words: wait and hope. --Alexandre Dumas IP: Logged |

I'm not breaking radically new ground here.... 1. Sandman (based on my love of the excellent Sandman Mystery Theatre) The rest of the board seems to order these similarly -- so far.... IP: Logged |

I'd like to see DC start so many lines (let’s say 3) in a year for a few years and then, depending on how they do, see which ones warrant continuation (or at least immediate continuation). This way it gives fans of all of them at least 1 volume and will calm some of the impatient voices in the crowd (mine included). As for sales, I doubt any of them will do poorly (loose money), but some will surely be stronger sellers than others, and some are, sadly, likely just to break even. Year One: Year Two: Year Three: Really, I want all of them, and I'm starting to warm up to Johnny Thunder more and more all of the time. I always liked him, but after reading my latest All-Star Archive (volume 4), I found myself looking forward to him getting at least 1 volume of his own. Then after this experiment is done, maybe move on to other neglected Golden Age properties (assuming that by now DC has released at least 1 volume of Superboy, Captain Marvel Jr., Green Arrow, and the SSoV in the time they were doing the JSA experiment, as well as come up with good tech for restoring "fine line" artists' work): Year Four: Year Five: Year Six: Year Seven: Year Eight: Year Nine: Year Ten: Just 10 years with three new lines, and we get most of the best of the Golden Age at least started. Not bad, some of these lines may not see a volume two, and many of the Quality features would only need 2 or 3 books to complete the run, so why not start? -Steve ------------------ IP: Logged |

I'd like them all but, if forced to prioritize, I'd go: 1. Dr. Fate. It's kind of cool that he faces his arch-nemesis Wotan in the first issue, a villain still around today. 2. Sandman. With the success of the Gaiman Sandman, and following up on "Sandman Mystery Theatre," it's hard for me to believe this hasn't been done yet. Plus, you've got to like the gas mask and the later Kirby stuff. 3. Hawkman. Always enjoyed the reprints I've read. As far as I can tell, it often seems more like pulp stories than super-hero comics. 4. Johnny Thunder. Goofy charm, and tied in enough to the JSA to appeal to the super-hero fan in me. 5. Wildcat. You'd think they'd have reached a character active in modern continuity before this. 6. Hourman. Not as active as Wildcat, but his presence is certainly still being felt. 7. Dr. Mid-Nite. A pretty distinct character, especially for its time, with the blind super-hero angle. 8. Atom. The last of the core JSA group in my view. 9. Mr. Terrific. I always get the impression this character has really been developed more in modern times than he even was in the GA. I'd be interested in seeing it, though. 10. Scribbly/Red Tornado. Sorry, this type of humor comic just doesn't cut it for me. I'm probably give the first volume a try with an open mind, though. I find I don't worry too much about creators when making lists like this. I focus more on the characters themselves. As these characters pass through so many hands over the years, that's one of the reasons I find the completeness of the Archive program so valuable -- I don't want to just read Kirby Sandman, say, but to see everything about the character, in all incarnations under all creative hands over the years. 1. Dr. Fate - see 2/3 for reasoning 2/3. Hawkman/Sandman - no particular order Hawkman would be number 1 except that I can see Hawkman in All-Star, JSA, and his own series. Dr. Fate just edges out Sandman. I wouldn't complain about any order for the top 4. Hourman - underrated from the few examples I've seen. 5. Wildcat - cool character who hasn't been reprinted enough. 6. Johnny Thunder - Johnny's incompetence keeps him from having a higher slot. I enjoy humor, but I think JSA members should have some brains. 7. Scribbly/Red Tornado - If I'm in control, Scribbly starts from the beginning, before the Red Tornado. If I'm making the entire schedule, Scribbly is much higher because of its quality and variety. However, as a JSA character, she's low on my list. 8. Atom - By far the worst chapters in All-Star as far as I'm concerned. 9. Mr. Terrific - I don't believe I've ever seen any GA stories, but I don't have the heart to put Mr. Terrific above an original member (Atom) who appeared in every issue(or almost every, I don't remember) IP: Logged |

Hawkman tops my list, with Doctor Fate and Sandman tied for second place. After that, I've no particular favorites because I have no expectations of seeing the other Justice Society members in Archive editions of their own. I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised, mind you, but unwilling to hold my breath while waiting to be pleasantly surprised. IP: Logged |

I actually think there's a reasonable chance of seeing the middle group--Hourman, Wildcat and maybe Dr.Mid-Nite, after a few years. But I agree that the top 3 are the only real high probability candidates. IP: Logged |
