Hi regulars. If there were one archive and one archive only that you can keep which one would it be? I am torn between so many--the second Shazam is great, Superman in Action #1, The First Batman Archive, the All-Star #6, the Blackhawk Archive, the second GL, The first Plastic Man, Golden Age Starman. It is a tough one. Here are my choices: Favorite Archive: Batman #1 Favorite Series: The Spirit--what a great choice, and I appreciate DC's sense of doing it chronologically. Whoever thought this one up deserves kudos and praise. IP: Logged |

DOOM PATROL. Of course, this may change once I have the Challengers in my possession Favorite series: T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS. The second volume has some of my all-time favorite comics stories from the 60s. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Favorite Archive - Hawkman Vol. 1 Favortite series - S.A. Flash (and I wish they'd go ahead and put out Vol. 4, which would start of with my favorite Flash cover of all time, #125 "Conquerors of Time." If the don't use that cover on the back of the Archive, they're nuts.) IP: Logged |

How often while sitting in my comic room staring at the archives have I pondered this hopefully ever-hypothetical question! And it's a tough one. My favorie comics ever were the World's Finest Superman/Batman tales I read as a child. My two favorite heroes together in one story! I've sold much of my original collection, but I've never parted with any WF issues. My problem is deciding between the two. I lean toward the second one, though — personal reasons. HOWEVER... Looking at this a different way, since I still have probably two-thirds of the issues reprinted in this archive, I should probably pick one that is "new" stuff. So, for the above stated reason, I'm eliminating WF, my favorite archives, and seconding Batfan's vote for Batman Archives #1. What a thrill it was to see the seminal Batman stories. The evolution of the character in this one volume was remarkable. Essential/favorite series: another tough one. Best stories and art? The Spirit, hands down. But my one esssential series would have to be All-Star. Yeah, yeah, I know. I can't actually read them either. But they represent all the major characters in the 1940s DC Universe. And I've been a huge fan of the JSA since their first Silver Age appearance. So, despite the fact that I support the Silver Age archives more than the Golden, my picks to keep are all Golden Age books. IP: Logged |

I meant to ask, Batfan, what was it about All-Star #6 that made it stand out among the eight volumes published thus far? IP: Logged |

I don't think I can. If I had to make a snap call for this instant because the house is burning down and my wife and all the cats and other important valuables are accounted for, then-- This decision, particularly the single volume part of it, might be different tomorrow--or, indeed, 5 minutes from now. Single volume favorite is almost impossible for me too. Aquaman, I laugh, might be what I would save if the house were burning. However that would be because I have been forcing myself to ration out the stories and still have some left to read. More likely I would grab the 2 volume Simon & Kirby Captain America. Or something from the Little Lulu Library or the Carl Barks Library. Favorite Series: The Spirit, hands down, followed by Plastic Man, Little Lulu & Carl Barks, maybe not in that order. -Scott IP: Logged |

Once there's a bunch of postwar Eisner in the Spirit Archives, it'll be my series pick, too. Then there's the Fantagraphics Prince Valiants, and the Kitchen Sink Flash Gordons, and the NBM Tarzans and Terry & the Pirates.... IP: Logged |

I'll play too... Single favorite archive: Batman #1...I just love the first year of the Batman. Dark, mysterious avenger of the night. The character is in his purest form in this one volume. Most Essential Archive Series: Easy. All Star Comics Archives. The reason being is taht it's an excellent sampler of several Golden Age heroes. Plus many of the stories are drawn by the character's artist at that time. It gives you an idea of what the character was about. ------------------ IP: Logged |

One? Ouch. I'd have to say that Batman Archives #1 just edges out Aquaman and Plastic Man by a nose. Favorite series would be All-Star. IP: Logged |

quote: Hard to imagine anyone but Elongated Man beating Plas by a nose... The one book I'd take out of the burning house is The Atom Archives, since I just got it this week and haven't done more than a casual flip through. I don't really have a series vote, since I don't have any volume 2s. ------------------ IP: Logged |
