Beautiful squarebound giant with a feast of reprints, all in the order you just described.

FLY MAN--"The Creature From The Abyss"
"The Fly Man's Partners in Peril!" Part 1
"Battle Of The Super-Heroes!" Part 2
"The Wicked Web Of The Wily Spider!" Part 3
THE WEB--"The Mad Caper Of The Madman"
THE SHIELD--"Evilo, The Tempter" art by Sekowsky

I picked one of these up a few years back, and it's been the crown jewel of my Mighty Comics collection ever since.

Now....if I could only find a copy of ARCHIE GIANT SERIES # 142 from Oct 1966. This is a special filled with Pureheart the Powerful tales. One of these days......

After my original post I went home and looked through the price guide trying to find what title this big collection might be under--tried Mighty Comics, Mighty Crusaders, Flyman, Archie Giant Series--all with no luck, nothing listed there could be my favourite comicbook. Then I decided to look under Super Heroes and voila! I found SUPER HEROES VS SUPER VILLAINS--just as Cave Carson, I concluded that this must indeed be the one!

Funny thing, since another comic I loved from that same timeframe is listed under the title SUPER-HEROES (published by Dell). This is another comic that walked into our house without its cover (probably at the same time, maybe they were from a grab bag at a school bazaar, I'm not sure). But I always knew of it as FAB FOUR (it had a short run but the only one I ever read was number one), where four teens inhabit the bodies of four super-powered androids.

I wonder if attacks on the name of "Super Hero" by Archie and Dell with these titles, prompted DC and Marvel to work together in securing joint ownership of the name?

I did pick up a good copy of Dell's SUPER-HEROES (with cover) at a swap meet a few years ago. Now I have this urge to track down a good copy of SUPER HEROES VS SUPER VILLAINS (I still have our original copy, but the first and last several pages are now missing, in addition to the never seen cover).

For what it is worth, I have been buying and selling some pretty nice coverless copies of MLJ comics for quite some time. They usually go for between $20-35 each. I am sure that Archie could afford these, especially for a cheaper format. I for one like the Shield book. I also like the Web, the Hangman and Mr. Justice. So, yes, I would buy these reprints in whatever format.

I agree that Archie must be using cheap coverless copies. Remember, the covers in the Shield book were borderline bad. (Especially Shield-Wizard #1...) They almost looked like scans they pulled from eBay. (That's pretty much my only complaint about the book however.) I'm sure that as long as the stories are complete and intact, that those are the kinds of books Archie is buying for these reprints. Remember, they are valuable, and I doubt Archie is going to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for one book just to destroy it.

Sounds pretty likely. A book's worth of material could be put together that way for a few hundred dollars, far less than the price of a mint copy of a single one of the issues collected.
