Here's my SA Atom map. It covers everything up to about 1994, so I doubt all volumes will be seen. My bet is we'll just see through volume 6, 7 at the most. Volume 1 (224 Pages): Atom 1-5; Showcase 34-36 Volume 2 (208 Pages): Atom 6-13 Volume 3 (226 Pages): Atom 14-22 Volume 4 (223 Pages): Atom 23-31 Volume 5 (208 Pages): Atom 32-38; Atom and Hawkman 39-40 Volume 6 (218 Pages): Action Comics 425, 427, 430, 433, 435, 438-439, 442, 447-448, 453-455; Atom and Hawkman 41-45 Volume 7 (236 Pages): Action Comics 487, 513-516, 521-524, 530-533; DC Special Series 1; Detective Comics 489; Sword of the Atom 1-4; World's Finest Comics 283 Volume 8 (209 Pages): Power of the Atom 1-4; Secret Origins 29; Sword of the Atom Special 1-2 Volume 9 (225 Pages): Power of the Atom 5-12; Sword of the Atom Special 3 Volume 10 (204 Pages): Atom Special 1; Power of the Atom 13-18; Showcase '94 6 -Steve ------------------ IP: Logged |

How many of the stories in Atom and Hawkman #39-45 were team-ups, which would have to appear in both the Atom Archives and the Hawkman Archives? Should there be a separate Atom and Hawkman Archives, collecting those 7 issues? IP: Logged |

Issues 39, 42, and 45 were team-ups. The rest had separate stories. It wouldn't be completely out of the question to double up the 3 stories, but I'm sure plenty of people would complain. IP: Logged |

Here we go: #39: "Vengeance of the Silver Vulture" (team-up; 23 pages + cover) #40: "The Explosive Exploits of the Split-Atom" (Atom; 14 pages); "The Man with the Inbuilt Panic Button" (Hawkman; 9 pages); Hawkman & Atom team-up cover #41: "Return of the Seven-Year-Dead Man" (Atom; 14 pages); "Yo-Yo Hangup in the Sky" (Hawkman; 9 pages); Atom/Hawkman split cover #42: "When Gods Make Madness" (team-up; 23 pages + cover) #43: "Come to My Hanging" (Hawkman; 12 pages + cover); "Buzzin, Buzzin -- Who's Got the Buzzin" (Atom; 11 pages) #44: "The Ghost Laughs Last!" (Hawkman; 13 pages + cover); "Hate Is Where You Find It!" (Atom; 11 pages) #45: "Queen Jean, Why Must We Die?" (team-up; 23 pages + cover) So, with 3 team-up stories, 23 pages each, and 7 covers, that means 76 pages, or about 1/3 of a volume, of duplicate material. IP: Logged |

Great site, Owen! I thank you for the time and effort you have put in to it and all that mapping! I noticed a map for Herbie. Wouldn't it kick butt if DC did a Herbie Archive? I would personally buy everyone a lollypop who pre-orders, and who posts that info on the DC Archive Message Board. (Come on Bob G., I know you're reading this - I would buy you one too!) Thanks again Owen. IP: Logged |

Shouldn't the GL archives include the revival of the Green Lantern comic after the series in Flash ended? IP: Logged |

How about including Super Team Family 11 -14 in the Atom archive map? The Atom appeared in each issue, and his quest to save Jean was the central plot of the storyline. Those were fun issues! IP: Logged |

quote: Eventually, yes. I didn't bother to map it that far ahead. Also, should the late-70s O'Neil/Grell "Green Lantern/Green Arrow" issues be published separately as the Green Lantern/Green Arrow Archives? IP: Logged |

quote: You're right, but as I said, I'm thinking maybe the Grell issues should be collected separately as the Green Lantern/Green Arrow Archives. IP: Logged |

That's my thinking, too. GL/GA is a separate line of Archives. IP: Logged |

quote: I seriously doubt we'd see a GL/GA volume (or a Deadman volume) for awhile - given the slipcases for these two. Actually, for the price, the slipcases come out pretty good as I think they cover as much (if not more) ground than two archive editions for less the price. ------------------ 5 Earths Project - Earth-1 IP: Logged |

I take many of the maps as pie-in-the-sky wish lists. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy them or the fantasy is pointless, but I think arguing about feasability is off point. Some day, we hope, DC might do these archives. In which event, a Green Lantern/Green Arrow archive would be best off if it started with the O'Neil/Adams issues first. That would give it a big selling volume 1 (and volume 2). We just assume this will be five years or more down the road and the Hard Travelling Heroes will be out of print. I also suggest that unlike that collection, the issues in the archives should adhere to the original versions of the art (no Adams fixing his art years later). I think the Green Lantern "solo" archives that pick up after the original cancellation should be under a separate title (eg. Green Lantern: The Emerald Gladiator Archives). On another point: I notice that there's no Tec issue 355 listed for Elongated Man--is this just an error, or is this story (guest-starring Zatanna) accounted for in another series? IP: Logged |

Owen, Great site! Are you looking for corrections too? I noticed two things on the Legion page. 1) DC Super-Stars #17 (Nov-Dec 1977) should follow SB&LSH #232 (Oct 1977). 2) Under Volume 16, LSH #244 should be SB&LSH #244. IP: Logged |

quote: Exactly. I'm inclined to think that DC will let the slipcases go out of print after the first edition is sold out anyway, as you say, and the material they contain is so strong that eventual archives (years from now, of course, so demand can build up again) are probably inevitable. I'm with you in hoping that none of Adams' tampering will be allowed into the archives when they're finally done--that sort of thing has no places in a historical record. IP: Logged |

quote: Thanks for the correction. The index I used to create my EM map has a major error. It omits the story from Tec 352 ("The Counter of Monte Carlo"), assigns the stories from 353-355 to 352-354 and just skips over 355. Thanks to the GCD I was able to fix it and will upload the corrected page to my site later. Once, again, thanks for bringing that to my attention. IP: Logged |

Something else to add to that list: World's Finest should include the World's Finest Comics Digest (DC Special Series, vol 5, #23, February 1981), cover only. Come to think of it... (searches web)... I found a list of digests at http://www.comicdigests.com/dc.htm . There are several series there with digests whose covers should appear in Archives that your lists cover, including World's Finest, Green Lantern, and Justice Society. IP: Logged |

No doubt about it, tracking down all the extraneous material for everybody can be a real challenge. The maps are only as good as the source material, and that has errors and is incomplete and not organized with Archive Mappers in mind. I think any given map is only a first draft, and these things will be fine-tuned over the coming years as errors are discovered and new info comes to light. Then there's editorial decision (maybe the toughest part), like DC had to make regarding Karate Kid. As Bob Seger sang: "... what to leave in; what to leave out" IP: Logged |
