Wanting to buy an archive that only has one volume, and not caring about most of the superheroes, I figured I get one of the three war books. However, I'm not sure which one.

So, in your opinion, should I get:
-Sgt. Rock
-Enemy Ace
-Blackhawk

(PS. If there are any others I didnt list that I dont know about, please mention it)

thankyou

I would go with Enemy Ace. I've always found the character to be more fascinating than
Rock and Kubert's flying scenes are truly breathtaking.

The only one I currently own in Enemy Ace and it is good. A word of caution though. The first half of the book is very formulaic. As long as you don't read more than 1 or 2 stories in a sitting, you should enjoy it!

I would go with the Sgt. Rock volume. I love the Enemy Ace volume too but Rock's always been one of my favorite characters and I enjoyed the archive a great deal. You can't go wrong with either one however. The Kubert art is beautiful in both!!

I own all three Archives and rank them all highly. I agree that the earliest Enemy Ace stories are formulaic -- but what a formula! -- yet I think it is the best of the three.

Much as I like Enemy Ace, my favorite war archive is Blackhawk. Consider that all of the stories reprinted in Blackhawk Archive v.1 actually date back to the World War II era, and represent some of the best material ever published by Quality Comics. The second half of this fine volume features stories written by William Woolfolk and beautifully illustrated by Reed Crandall, two of the most talented craftsmen to emerge from the Golden age of comics.
