Interesting.
I guess the reorder supply that my local store kept tapping into was not Diamond, then.
Probably a local subdistributor here who often has a few cases of out of print stuff that he over-ordered (he still had Dark Knight 10th Anniversary HCs and Homage first printing Astro City vol.1 HCs last year too)available if you know where to look.
Sorry to have jumped to the conclusion that it was widely available just because I kept seeing it on the shelves--my bad.

I actually bought The Greatest Golden Age Stories Ever Told, brand-new, in a comic book store in 1999.
I was quite surprised, at the time, at finding such a hardcover still in a shop, nearly ten years after publication.
I would not have been surprised if it had been a TPB.

I bought my copy of The Greatest Golden Age Stories Ever Told when it first came out in early 1990. I'm actually ashamed to say this, but I haven't finished reading the entire book to this day (and yes, its a damn good read from what I've read). I've read a few stories, and then I stopped. Now, its been 13 years...got to finish that book (and my many other hardcovers and trade paperbacks that I sill haven't read yet!). Ugh...! I'll just re-read the book from the start again.

Actually, I just got my copy of the "Greatest Golden Age Stories" just last year. It was still 'new' and unsold, sitting there on the comic-shop's bookshelf. Although I purchased some of the earliest archive releases when they came out, I really wasn't aware of this 'greatest' series at the time. But, I'm glad I got this Golden Age one. It's an absolute gem. The Blackhawk story is probably my favorite, but the volume is literally chock full of gems. Anyone who is remotely interested in the era should get a copy.

A few years back, DC actually had some final copies of some long out-of-print paperbacks re-solicited to be available thru Diamond's back order of DC'c backlist of books.

I can't remember when this was (maybe 1996, 1997 or 1998?), and some of the books DC had to be available again for the final time was The Greatest Flash Stories Ever Told TPB, Batman: The Dailies vol. 1, and Batman: The Sunday Classics. Again, these must have been some final stock lying around at that time since they were no longer available by the mid-1990s for any re-orders, being out-of-print.

I took the oppurtunity to order The Greatest Flash Stories Ever Told TPB back then. Now, of those three books, only Batman: The Dailies vol. 1 is still available in the Star Sytem. The star order code is STAR 08523D

DC recently did this re-offer of on out-of-print book again just two years ago with Star Trek: The Ashes of Eden TPB. It wasn't available for a few years in the Star System, and then DC had some extra stock available again, just like Greatest Flash Stories, I ordered this book. It was still the original first printing, and not a second printing. Its still available to order in the Star System today.
