The only problem with starting Green Arrow in the thick of the Silver Age (c1958, just like Aquaman and Superman) is there would be only 2 volumes before he fades away for the rest of the '60s. After that, Green Arrow is best Archived with Green Lantern or with Black Canary.

I'd prefer starting Green Arrow at the beginning. It takes only ("only", he says!) 12 volumes to collect all of the original costume stories. After that, it is effectively a different character: no Speedy, different costume, different personality, none of the Batman-style trappings, etc. Like the New Look Batman, the real break in Green Arrow is not at the dawn of the Silver Age, but rather much later.

Who in their right minds would want to own/read TWELVE volumes of Green Arrow? I just LOVED the Green Arrow of the late '50s and early '60s, so I'd love a volume or two of them, and maybe one of the very earliest tales, but that's it.

Twelve volumes! My God!

Like the New Look Batman, the real break in Green Arrow is not at the dawn of the Silver Age, but rather much later.

I'd argue that that break in the Green Arrow character is one of the signal events of the quite fuzzy Silver/Bronze border in DC comics continuity, along with the advent of Joe Orlando on the mystery books, Giordano's defection from Charlton with Ditko, O'Neil, Skeates, Aparo and Boyette in tow, Carmine Infantino's ascension to godhood, the debuts of Wrightson, Kaluta et al., Schwartz taking over Superman, and the arrival of Kirby. The whole process took about 2 years.

I'm not salivating to own 12 volumes of Green Arrow Archives, but I honestly think I'd buy all of them if DC published that many.

I was in the army in 1970 and 1971. When I came out, the world had changed so much!

One example was how sitcoms had changed from Beverly Hillbillies to All in the Family.

And when I went in, there were still Silver Age comics on the stands. When I got out, they were solid Bronze.
