As a result, Kirby had to draw a rush fill-in issue (OVER THE WEEKEND!), the 3rd chapter came out a month late-- and Steranko WALKED off the series, when he had apparently intended to stick around a lot longer.

Do you know and can you relate what Steranko had intended to do with the end of his Captain America trilogy before Stan made him redo it?

I believe it had something to do with the resolution of the Steve Rogers "secret identity" subplot. Stan (or Jack?) had Steve quit being Cap, and he revealed his i.d. in the process. One issue later, he resumed being Cap (big surprise-- heehee) but for about a year's worth of stories, the whole world knew Steve was Cap, which apparently caused some problems. Stans resolution was the scam of people supposedlyt believing Steve had been a fake i.d. as well-- so the public would be left wondering, "Then WHO was he, really?" I'm realy not sure exactly what Steranko had in mind (I read about it, but forget the details)

I believe this was discussed in TALES FROM THE EDGE #11 from Vangaurd Studio Productions. It containing Steranko art and stories about his life. Judging by some of the autobiographical details, I confess I was left wondering if some of it was as much a work of fiction as his comics stories! (If it all was true, I'm probably better off not knowing the guy any better than I already do-- heehee.)

Prof you wrote..."(Whereas inkers like Dick Ayers, Vince Colletta, John Tartaglione & Bob Smith (at DC) tended to MURDER poor Gene's work."
I couldn't believe what inker John Tartaglione did to Steranko's work on his two issue run of X-men #50-51. It's the only time I ever thought Jim's work actually looked BAD! Why they didn't switch inkers for the next issue after the finished inks from X-men #50 came in is beyond me.

In the "Dynamic Duo Archives", the stories drawn by Kane - errr - Moldoff - had Batman's cowl more expressive than many a character's face. If Bat's was a-frowning, the eyes were semi-circles (semi-ovals, really), curve down. For most other emotions the semi-circle was curve up. Then there were those eyebrows on the cowl...

Been rereading my Daredevil collection, and as I reach the Miller era...

Do I see some "Ditko" in his work?

Was his DD stint before the Dark Knight stuff? Is so, it seems one can see many "seeds" aborn in his Daredevil work...

best...

Yes, Daredevil came before Dark Knight, and was the first thing that brought Miller to wide attention.
Then the Wolverine miniseries.
Then Ronin, then Dark Knight.
